Gin DayAs World Gin Day returns for its ninth year on 10th June, we’re joining the celebration of all things gin. And where better than at the House of Gin at the spectacular Hotel Palace Berlin. The House of Gin offers 150 varieties of gin, ranging from English classics to Finnish, Canadian or Belgian varieties and limited-batch Berlin gins. The menus present a true “gineology” of all 150 gins on offer. Each gin has its own dedicated page, giving the enthusiast a chance to learn everything about that variety‘s history, origin, manufacturer, production and individual character. Impressive stuff!

The Hotel Palace bar team begins by consulting with their guests to determine their favourite flavours, before preparing their chosen gin creation with plenty of flair. Raspberries on ice are briefly flambéed in the glass making the perfect garnish for cocktail classics such as the Manhattan, Sazerac or Old Fashioned. Guests who prefer bubbly can choose their perfect glass from a fine champagne menu.

The vast array of accompaniments for gin, as well as the numerous flavours of gin itself makes for a myriad of enticing cocktail options in bars across Europe and the world. This makeover has reinvigorated gin into the drink of the day for the discerning socialite.

Fancy a tipple? Historically the one and only classic go to for is obviously the Gin and Tonic. Though if you’re feeling creative, you could come over all James Bond and order a Gin Martini. The bitter flavour of the drink is not for the faint hearted but once acquired, nothing else will do. Depending on personal preferences several varieties of gin work well in a martini. A classic brand such as Beefeater or Bombay Sapphire lend a stronger note of Juniper; whilst newer brands such as Hendrick’s scale back the juniper flavouring in favour of other notes such as cucumber.

No matter what your taste, the House of Gin certainly caters. Relax in the elegant surroundings with a background of swing and jazz melodies, subdued lighting, dark leather seats and a stunning semi-circular bar. This really is a House of Gin, though with a menu featuring 150 varieties, you might find you’ll want to make yourself at home…
